A Bit of History
- Zane Grey’s Legacy (1930):
American writer known for his adventure novels and stories that presented an idealized image of the American West.
Grey was an avid reader of adventure stories (Robinson Crusoe and Les Histoires de Bas-de-Cuir) and short stories (such as Buffalo Bill and Deadwood Dick). He was fascinated by the great illustrators Howard Pyle and Frederic Remington, and tried to copy them crudely. He was particularly impressed by Our Western Border, a story of the Ohio frontier that probably inspired his first novels.
After completing his studies, Zane established his dental practice in New York under the name Dr. Zane Grey, in 1896. He wanted to be close to the publishing houses. He began writing in the evenings to compensate for the boredom of his work at the practice.
A keen explorer, hunter and fisherman, he wrote a book about fishing in Polynesia:
Tales of Tahitian Waters describes Grey's fishing expeditions to the Tahiti Islands in 1928, 1929 and 1930. In the book, Grey claims to be the first big-game fisherman to fish these waters, and there is little reason to doubt his claims.
He had passed through Tahiti on his way to other fishing expeditions in Australia and New Zealand, and had heard of marlin 30 feet long (9.1 m) and sharks 50 feet long (15 m).
Grey held numerous fishing records for these species and was determined to pursue them. In Tales of Tahitian Waters, he claims a special affection for these waters, and visited them several times afterwards, although these visits were not the subject of this book.
- Forbes & Malard Ownership (1970s):
In the 1970s, this exceptional location was acquired by the renowned Forbes Group, an international benchmark in finance, business and luxury lifestyle. Known for its influential rankings and publications, Forbes symbolizes excellence and success in the business world.
Bought out by Raoul Gérard Albert Malard, son of a renowned industrialist. The latter is best known for his purchase of Monoprix from the Galeries Lafayette group, a major investment that undoubtedly contributed to the family fortune.
The purchase of this estate by these illustrious personalities reflects the exceptional value and unique potential of this enchanting location, where prestige and natural beauty meet. This exceptional treasure embodies a rich history, blending family heritage and international success, in perfect harmony with the wild, authentic richness of Domaine Toa Hotu.
Today, the current owners are honoring this dimension by developing an ambitious project for Domaine Toa Hotu, aimed at preserving and sublimating its heritage while enhancing its natural and wild riches.
